Pavliani: A Living Myth in Oiti!

Built at an altitude of 1050 meters, at the entrance of the Oiti National Park and right next to the Pyre of Hercules, Pavliani is immersed in greenery, offering visitors an alpine landscape that captivates all year round. With it rises the myth of our greatest hero: Hercules, who is deified at the top of the mountain. Fthiotida reveals one of its richest and most impressive mountain ranges here.

It is said that Pavliani got its name from its first inhabitants, who were the first to believe in the teachings of Apostle Paul. The village was initially built in a lower location, approximately where the village of Oiti is now located. Pavliani, however, as a location, has been known since antiquity. Near the present-day village and at an altitude of 1,800 meters, there are the ruins of the ancient Temple, which was dedicated to the mythical hero Hercules. This is the sacred place where Hercules was liberated from Deianira's tyrannical tunic on the pyre and became a demigod with the intervention of Zeus. At the entrance to Pavliani, visitors will encounter the memorial to all those – Greeks and Italians – who fell in the Battle of Pavliani in June 1942.

With respect, love, and passion for the preservation, promotion, and protection of the environment, Pavliani is integrated into the pilot program Habitat Agenda, which concerns the sustainable development of villages and the implementation of model regeneration projects for their upgrading. With a unique natural Park in Greece at the springs of Asopos, visitors are captivated by a magical path, where the colors of ancient trees and waters are reflected, leading to the heart of the natural park.

With areas for sports, recreation, relaxation, and entertainment for all ages, and modern traditional guesthouses, Pavliani leaves travelers enchanted by its traditional construction and organization. Visitors' interest is focused on the Church of Agios Athanasios in the square and the stone Municipal School. Moreover, a characteristic of the area's residential development is the dominance of two materials: stone and wood, which blend harmoniously with the natural environment.

Of particular interest are the small or large excursions into the Oiti National Park up to the refuge, the "Katavothres" (sinkholes) and the Greveno peak, to the Pyre of Hercules and Kouvellos, where you will encounter unique flora and fauna, exclusive to Oiti. Get ready for unforgettable experiences in nature!
